Get Beach Ready! Summer Picks from Wanda Wen

Some colors exude summer, like the fresh aqua and tomato-red hues of Uashmama’s glossy Giulia tote bags—which surprisingly, are made of washable paper. “It almost feels like leather, but it’s not,” says Wanda Wen, owner of Soolip. “It’s very, very durable.”

For a trip to the beach or an evening picnic, Wen likes to pack her Giulia tote with Kerry Cassill’s Modern Zebra Quilt from Upstairs at Pierre La Fond in Montecito, a soft cardigan from Crown at Malibu Country Mart, and “a delicious, epicurean picnic lunch” from Moody Market & Provisions in Westlake Village. She brings whimsical Sunflower & Seeds paper place mats from Soolip to elevate alfresco meals along with a pair of Caddis Wabi Sabi sunglasses and a Madewell Whipstitched Straw Bucket Hat to block the sun.

There’s still room for a good book, so she opts for The Creative Act: A Way of Being by Rick Rubin.
