Paper Alchemy - A Collage Mixed Media Experience
Everyone has an artist inside. The artist is our inner self, what we desire to communicate and express. Whether you work as a corporate executive, lawyer, medical professional, designer, public servant, entrepreneur, parent, student, making time to connect to your authentic self by accessing your innate creativity on a regular basis is vital to our health and well-being. When we try something new outside of our daily work, or when we create something original, we cultivate our ability to think outside the box, keeping us vibrant, open, optimistic, joyful.

Collage, derived from the French word “coller” meaning “to glue,” is an art form that merges together different elements. By combining materials from various sources, we create new visual narratives that transcend their individual parts. This process is not just about assembling fragments; it’s about discovering the hidden connections and stories that emerge from their union. To let go of perfection, trust the process, and immerse yourself in the joy of creation.
In this 3-hour workshop, Mary will dive into the interplay of color, form, and texture, and show how to harness these elements to convey personal expression and meaning. Working on 2 - 8”x 8” cradled wood panels, we will use paper, pencils, chalk pastels, paint and stencils, to add texture and variety to our pieces. All materials are included with some paper materials from the artist collection available. You are highly encouraged to also bring your own papers to personalize your artwork.
The goal is for each participant to leave with not only a piece (or two) of art but also a deeper understanding of their creative potential and an appreciation for the fun of collage.
Prerequisite: Bring ephemera that you are open to memorializing, in fragments. Could be old letters, papers from memorable experiences or travels, or non-official or outdated documents that hold meaning.
