Making and Creating with Earth Pigments Workshop
Everyone has an artist inside. The artist is our inner self, what we desire to communicate and express. Whatever your profession is - a corporate executive, a lawyer, a medical professional, in public service, an entrepreneur, a parent, making time to be creative on a regular basis is vital to our well-being. When we try something new outside of our daily work, or when we create something original, we cultivate our ability to think outside the box, keeping ourselves vibrant, open, optimistic, joyful.
I believe in living a creative life for the health and well-being of one's soul. May these classes, of Hand & Heart, spark your curiosity.
- Wanda Wen
Learn how to make natural paint using local soil and rocks!
Since the beginning of human history, we have made paint and expressed ourselves artistically using natural colors gathered from the earth. There is a rainbow of beautiful colors under our feet every day. It is surprisingly easy to make all kinds of paint from our local landscape.
Join author, Alan Salazar and illustrator Mona Lewis for a morning of Chumash culture, storytelling and natural paint making.
Alan Salazar, Chumash elder, will read his new book “A Coyote Rescues Hawk” and speak about the traditional rock art in his Chumash and Tataviam tribal history.
Artist and Waldorf Educator Mona Lewis, who illustrated “Coyote Rescues Hawk” using exclusively earth paints, will teach you how to find soil and rocks for paint, how to collect respectfully and how to turn these into watercolor paint. Each student will experiment deriving pigments from various elements found in our natural earth, and use these colors to paint their own piece on ARPA handmade paper.
All students will receive a packet of ARPA handmade stationery note cards and envelopes to take home, for further exploration and card-making.
Please Note: Workshop fees are non-refundable
Workshop Location:
